GUNS/MASS SHOOTING/SOCIAL MEDIA/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “Hours after one student was killed and eight others wounded during a shooting Tuesday [5-7-19] at a Colorado school, President Donald Trump had not personally commented on the attack. However, in the interim, he had chosen to tweet about a wide variety of other topics. Opting not to join the chorus of elected officials expressing sympathy for the students and families impacted by the attack on STEM School Highlands Ranch, Trump focused Tuesday night on everything from the 2016 election to the economy. Starting just after 9 p.m., the president tweeted and retweeted 11 times over the next 90 minutes. He retweeted about his approval ratings and a post celebrating the percentage of campaign contributions that came from women. He also tweeted about golf great Tiger Woods, whom he had awarded the presidential Medal of Freedom, and retweeted RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel criticizing Hillary Clinton for her campaign. Trump’s silence on the attack comes in contrast to past mass shootings, where the president has used Twitter to express his sympathies.”
