MEDIA/RALLY/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “For the third year in a row, Donald Trump is refusing to attend the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) annual dinner. He has, instead, scheduled a political rally in Wisconsin for the exact same time frame as the dinner this weekend. And it has been reported that he has ordered senior aides to also stay away. Some may lament the fact that Trump has chosen not to show his support for the press by attending the dinner, but it’s really okay that he won’t be there. There is a case to be made that Trump deserves credit for being authentic in his unwillingness to participate in a ritual in which people who really do not like, trust, or respect each other pretend to. But by holding a simultaneous event — which he also did last year with a rally in Michigan — that will force reporters covering it to miss the annual event that honors the work they do, he is thumbing his nose at the press.”
