FOREIGN POLICY/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “President Donald Trump will give an address and meet with foreign leaders including U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May and Rwandan President Paul Kagame while in Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum later this week, the White House said Tuesday.
Mr. Trump is set to leave for Davos late Wednesday [1-24-18], a day after the U.S. delegation led by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin headed overseas for the gathering.
The president is expected to discuss with foreign leaders national-security issues including efforts to denuclearize North Korea, combat the extremist group Islamic State and counter Iran’s ballistic missile activity, national security adviser H.R. McMaster said Tuesday.
On Thursday, Mr. Trump will meet with Mrs. May in their first talks since the president canceled a planned visit to the U.K. , citing his disagreement with a decision to relocate the U.S. Embassy and sell the old building for what he said was ‘peanuts.’ British newspapers attributed the move to Mr. Trump’s desire to avoid protests. He will also meet Thursday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to emphasize the U.S.’s ‘strong commitment to Israel,’ Mr. McMaster said.”
