FOREIGN POLICY/LEGAL/STATE/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT/VENEZUELA: “Four of the six Citgo Petroleum Corp. executives arrested here Tuesday [11-21-17] for alleged corruption are U.S. citizens, a company official said Wednesday.
Venezuela’s military intelligence agency on Tuesday arrested six top executives of the U.S. subsidiary of state-oil company Petróleos de Venezuela SA, as part of what authorities are calling an anticorruption purge.
Four of out of the six executives are naturalized U.S. citizens, said the Citgo official, who asked to remain anonymous because he wasn’t authorized to speak to the press.
Attorney General Tarek Saab on Tuesday said the acting president and five directors of Citgo, the U.S. refining arm of PdVSA, tried to defraud the nation through a planned $4 billion financing deal with three little-known foreign investment funds.
A Citgo spokesman declined to comment on the executives’s nationalities. The State Department and the U.S. Embassy in Caracas didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.”
