2016 ELECTION/CAMPAIGN/LEGAL/PAUL MANAFORT/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman, may go to trial as early as April on money-laundering and conspiracy charges stemming from accusations that he and an associate failed to pay taxes on millions of dollars they earned overseas.
During a brief hearing Thursday [11-2-17] at U.S. District Court here, Mr. Manafort’s lawyer, Kevin Downing, proposed an April trial date, and Judge Amy Jackson signaled the trial could start around that time.
Judge Jackson said she would evaluate schedules in coming days and likely confirm a trial date by early next week. She also set a hearing for Monday to re-evaluate the conditions under which Mr. Manafort and longtime business associate Richard Gates Jr. were released pending trial.
During their arraignment Monday, a magistrate judge set unsecured bonds for Mr. Manafort and Mr. Gates at $10 million and $5 million, respectively, and ordered them confined to home detention.”
