FOREIGN POLICY/TRUMP AS PRESIDENT: “President Donald Trump will travel to South Korea, Japan and China in a 12-day swing through Asia later this year, his first trip to the continent as president, the White House said Friday [9-29-17].
In the November trip, Mr. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will also visit Vietnam, the Philippines and Hawaii, the White House said.
Mr. Trump’s trip is intended to ‘strengthen the international resolve to confront the North Korean threat,’ the White House said, as well as to ‘ensure the complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.’ He will also discuss trade.
Mr. Trump will participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit.
The trip Nov. 3-14 will be Mr. Trump’s fourth international trip as president. He traveled to five countries, including Saudi Arabia, Israel and Italy, in May before attending the NATO summit in Brussels. In July, he visited Poland and Germany for the Group of 20 leaders summit. Later that month, he returned to France to celebrate Bastille Day and mark the 100th anniversary of U.S. entry into World War I.”
